Arutperunjothi Agaval: Couplet 362:

தாய்கருப் பையினுட் டங்கிய வுயிர்களை

ஆய்வுறக் காத்தரு ளருட்பெருஞ் ஜோதி

Living beings in their mothers’ wombs,

May the OmniLight of Supreme Compassion give them both its maternal protection and alleviate their suffering!

Note: This couplet, and others which follow, express Ramalingam’s heartfelt prayers or petitions to the OmniLight of Supreme Compassion, on behalf of the numerous varieties of living beings with their diverse modes of gestation or birth, sensory endowments, natures, and forms of living.

They appeal to and celebrate the self-determined and law-governed (the laws are determined by the OmniLight and consistent with its supreme compassion) protective functions of the OmniLight of Supreme Compassion. Not least, they underscore the importance of the ethic of compassion for living beings, and indicate its precepts.

The meditative recitation of these prayers helps to develop compassion for living beings.
