Notes:
“The primary trio of cosmic governors” (Tamil: மூவர் – Moovar; Sanskrit: त्रिमूर्ति or trimūrti) refers to the cosmic governors of creation, protection, and destruction. In Hindu mythology, the “primary trio” or trimūrtis are Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva.
The term “மூவர்” (Moovar) or “sacred trio” may refer to the trinity of Saiva poet-saints, Appar (570 – 670 CE), Sundarar (800 CE), and Sambandar (700 CE), who were the composers of the Tēvāram or anthology of Tamil devotional hymns on the deity Siva.
This couplet continues the series of couplets on மணி (Gemstone), மந்திரம் (Mantra), and மருந்து (Medicine). The OmniLight and its revelatory and other powers are described in terms of these three central metaphors of precious gemstone, mantra, and medicine.
The Arutperunjothi Agaval is Ramalingam’s magnum opus of spiritual enlightenment poetry composed in 798 couplets in 1872. In later posts, I will offer commentaries on these couplets.
