An old photo of Siddhi Valaagam (சித்தி வளாகம்) or “Abode of Adepthood”, Mettukuppam, Vadalur, Tamilnadu, India. It was Ramalingam’s final residence and venue of his last talk in October 1873.

Notes:

The Tamil word “உரத்தல்” (urattal) means “to become firm or hard”. The word “இடை” (idai) means “center”. It could mean the center of the abdomen, or the Svadhisthana or Sacral chakra in Kundalini yoga.

This couplet continues the series of couplets which describe Ramalingam’s extraordinary realization of the OmniLight. It is unique in the annals of religious or mystical experience. It is noteworthy that several of these couplets describe the transformations in his body occurring as a result of this extraordinary realization.

In his second “Petition To The OmniLight” (Suddha Sanmarga Vinappam), Ramalingam refers to two forms of movement of the seminal fluid in the male human body: the ordinary downward movement and emission in the sexual act and the extraordinary inner and upward movement nourishing the subtle energies and faculties of the body and mind. The latter process is the result of celibacy and sublimation or transmutation of the sexual energy for enlightenment. It must not be conflated with the practice of suppression of ejaculation in sexual union.

This couplet refers to this extraordinary inner and upward movement of the concentrated seminal fluid resulting from the practice of contemplation and realization of the OmniLight.

The Arutperunjothi Agaval is Ramalingam’s magnum opus of spiritual enlightenment poetry composed in 798 couplets in 1872. In later posts, I will offer commentaries on these couplets.
