This blog is devoted to the exposition and analysis of the post-religious and pure theistic path of wisdom and harmony (சமரச சுத்த சன்மார்க்கம்) envisioned by the Indian-Tamilian mystic, poet, and philosopher Chidambaram Ramalingam (1823 – 1874). Note: Jivakarunya Ozhukkam or "The Ethic Of Compassion For Sentient Beings", Arutperunjothi Agaval or "OmniLight Invocations", and the tetralogy of "Suddha Sanmarga Vinappams" or "The Petitions Of Suddha Sanmargam", constitute the authentic central writings of the later Ramalingam. In this blog, I will adhere to the principle that only the views expressed in these writings are representative of Ramalingam's Samarasa Suddha Sanmargam teachings. Notes:
The interpretation of the expression “அவளுக் கவளாம்” (avaluku avalam) at the start of the second line depends on the pronoun “அவள்” (aval) referring to the female or the feminine.
The word “திவள்” (thival) refers to luminous, brilliant, or resplendent beauty. Since light is electromagnetic radiation, or a form of Shakti or Energy, we could interpret the terms “அவள்” (aval) and “திவள்” (thival) in this couplet in terms of Shakti or Energy.
If we construe it to refer to Shakti or Energy, represented in Indian thought in the symbol or imagery of the female or the feminine, then this couplet affirms that the OmniLight is the Shakti of all Shaktis, the Energy of all energies in the cosmos.
A complementary interpretation is that the OmniLight is the feminine in all female entitiesand the Beauty in all beautiful entities in the cosmos.
